Certified Nursing Assistant

We are looking for a reliable CNA to care for our residents in a professional and considerate manner. You will work under the supervision of a Charge Nurse or DON. Candidates must be first and foremost qualified and compassionate. The ideal candidate will be experienced in providing diverse basic care to those who need it while remaining patient and calm. It is a demanding job but also very rewarding.

ABOUT THE POSITION

REPORTS TO: Charge Nurse; Director of Nursing; Assistant Director of Nursing

 

DEPARTMENT: Nursing

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed as a Certified Nurse Aide in the State of Missouri.

  • Must be well versed in basic nursing procedures.

  • Must be a person of excellent character, thoroughly trustworthy and reliable.

  • Must have a well-developed personality and the ability to work well with others.

  • Must be neat and well groomed.

 

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The employee must be able to perform each essential function effectively to be successful in this position.

  • Assist in the preparation for admission of residents.

  • Assists in and accompanies residents in the admission, transfer and discharge procedures.

  • Provides morning care, which may include bed bath, shower, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing residents, applying make-up and other personal care, changing bed linen, cleaning over bed table and bedside stand, straightening room and other general care as necessary throughout the day.

  • Provides evening care which includes hands/face washing as needed, oral hygiene, peri-care, freshening linen, cleaning over bed tables, straightening room and other general care as needed.

  • Provides post-mortem care.

  • Assist RNs & LPNs in treatment procedures.

  • Provides general nursing care such as positioning residents, lifting and turning residents, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in use of bedpan or commode and ambulating the residents.

  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure and intake/output.

  • Makes rounds with outgoing shift, knows whereabouts of assigned residents.

  • Makes rounds with oncoming shift to ensure the unit and resident closets are left in good condition.

  • Adheres to policies and procedures of the facility and the Department of Nursing.

  • Turns and positions residents as ordered and/or as needed, making sure no rough surfaces are in direct contact with the body. Lifts and turns with proper and safe body mechanics and with available resources.

  • Checks for reddened areas or skin breakdown and reports to RN or LPN.

  • Treats residents and their families with respect and dignity.

  • Accompanies residents to appointments, as needed.

  • Provides reality orientation in daily care.

  • Prepares residents for meals, serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds residents, if necessary.

  • Distributes drinking water and snacks to residents.

  • Performs general care activities for residents in isolation.

  • Answers residents’ call lights, anticipates residents’ needs and makes rounds to assigned residents.

  • Assist residents with handling and care of clothing and other personal property (including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids and prosthetic devices).

  • Transports residents to and from various departments, as requested.

  • Reports and, when appropriate, records any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents.

  • Charts ADL’s with every shift.

  • Must be able to follow directions, both oral and written, and work cooperatively with other staff members.

  • Attends inservice education programs, as assigned, to learn new treatments, procedures, develop skills, etc.

  • Possesses a genuine interest and concern for geriatric and disabled persons.

  • Must maintain resident confidentiality at all times.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:

 

Must have basic knowledge of nursing procedures. Must have basic computer knowledge. Would prefer CPR certification, but not required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Works in a climate controlled and well-lighted environment with a smoke-free policy. Works in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in hand washing practices and Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipates.
